Solid hardwood grading systems include Select, #1 Common, and #2 common. Select grade is mostly free of imperfections such as knots and mineral streaks. #1 Common has a few more knots, graining, and color variation. Lastly, #2 Common tends to have a lot more character – knots, open knots, graining, color variation, and a higher percentage of shorter planks in bundles.
